Under the contract, SyQwest Inc will produce large spherical array (LSA) and wide aperture array (WAA) outboard electronic bottles (OBE) used on the US Navy fleet of attack class submarines. The OBE is an integral part of the submarine sonar system. Each LSA and WAA OBE contains electronics to provide amplification, filtering, analog-to-digital conversion, and signal encoding. Digital acoustic data for all the hydrophone channels processed within the OBE are transmitted via serial data lines to the inboard Sonar system processing electronics.
The Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I., is the contracting agency. The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) is the Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weapons systems associated with undersea warfare.
