Bathy-1500 Application Notes
Evaluation of the BATHY 1500 Heave Compensation Function, data from an actual survey
Q: Dear Sir: I would like to purchase a Bathy 1500 to replace my ODOM unit. I have a custom designed data acquisition package that supports only the ODOM serial output format. Can the Bathy 1500 be modified to transmit the ODOM serial format?
A: The Bathy 1500 was designed to output many serial data formats so that it could be purchased as a direct replacement unit for early model echo sounders. The Bathy 1500 supports ODOM SBT and DBT serial formats (sometimes called the ODOm ET formats) as well as the DESO 25 format.Q: What hydrographic software packages are compatible with the Bathy 1500?
A: We support many common depth output formats including DESO25, ODOM et, PMC dt and ODEC's DEPTH and HEAVE formats. Coastal Oceanographic's Hypack and Trimble's HydroPro are highly recommended.Q: I am interested in the Bathy 1500 and require that it work in depths up to (xxx) meters. Most of my work is in very shallow water , what transducer(s) should I select?
A: A 200 kHz transducer is best for shallow water work (not to exceed 300m). Review the depth rating on our web site at the following link: transducer depth.Q: Does the bathy 1500 perform heave corrections?
A: Yes, the Bathy 1500 can interface to TSS motion sensors that support the TSS1 data format or to a Seatex motion sensor that supports the Seatex SOUNDER format. (see above links)- Q: Is it possible to access the raw data without speed of
sound correction so during post processing an other speed of sound can be
used.
A: All depth calculations are based on the value for speed of sound entered into the system. There is no "raw" data that is accessible.
